Demand to Keep Nalpada Village Free from Railway Line: Memorandum Submitted to SDM Addressed to the Chief Minister
BANSWARA / SAJJANGARH — The residents of the Nalpada area under the Sajjangarh sub-division in Banswara district submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) on Monday, addressed to the Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
In the memorandum, the villagers stated that the Nalpada area currently falls under the Biyapada Gram Panchayat. A survey is presently being conducted by the Ministry of Railways for the approved Neemuch–Dahod railway line, which shows the proposed track passing directly through Nalpada village.
The villagers expressed deep concern that the project would result in the loss of fertile agricultural land, rendering many farmers homeless and destroying their primary source of livelihood. Demanding that their village be exempted from the proposed railway route, the residents urged the state government to intervene.
Key local representatives and residents present during the submission included Raman, Dinesh, Ramesh, Mukesh, Tor Singh, Nehru, Ramchand, Ram Singh, Bada, and Hathi.
Development vs. Dislocation: The Dual Perspective
Historically, Banswara district has remained unconnected to the national railway network since Independence. However, railway construction efforts have gained momentum under the current government.
The Vision for Growth: A section of locals and community leaders strongly believe that connecting Banswara to the railway network will drive major economic development. Railway connectivity is expected to bring better transit options, attract large industries, boost small-scale enterprises, and generate employment opportunities locally. This could significantly curb the ongoing migration of the tribal population to neighboring Gujarat in search of livelihoods.
The Human Cost: On the flip side, local farmers face the imminent threat of displacement and loss of agricultural land.
It now remains to be seen how the government balances infrastructure development with the protection of tribal livelihoods and land rights in the region.
