Raipur, Chhattisgarh — In a precedent-setting judgment, a Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in Raipur has ruled in favor of a car owner whose vehicle suffered engine damage due to E20 (20% ethanol-blended) petrol. This marks India’s first official compensation order resulting from fuel compatibility issues linked to ethanol blending.

Vehicle Replacement: The consumer court has directed Maruti Suzuki India and its authorized dealership to provide the customer with a brand-new, E20-compatible car within 45 days.
Financial Refund Option: If the manufacturer fails to deliver a replacement within the stipulated time, they must refund the vehicle's full purchase cost—approximately ₹20.5 lakh—along with additional expenses incurred by the owner.
