MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood director and producer Shakeel Noorani has been arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with a grave case involving allegations of rape, drugging, and criminal intimidation.
The Allegations
According to the First Information Report (FIR) and police sources, the victim stated that she first met the director in 2016 at an award show in Lokhandwala, where he had invited her to contact him regarding future film work.
Years later, when she visited his residence in Malvani under the pretext of discussing an upcoming film project and reading a script, the situation took a dark turn.
Drugging & Assault: Noorani offered her a drink laced with a sedative, rendering her unconscious.
He then sexually assaulted her. Extortion and Threats: The accused allegedly filmed the assault and used the video to blackmail her, warning her against approaching the police or informing her family.
Repeated Exploitation: Under the constant threat of the viral circulation of the video, she was subjected to continuous sexual abuse on multiple occasions.
She also claimed that the director forced her to consume contraceptive pills repeatedly following the assaults.
Police Action and Arrest
After a formal complaint was lodged, the Malvani Police tracked Noorani down to a secluded farmhouse in Medha, located in Maharashtra’s Satara district.
An official case has been registered against the director under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections pertaining to rape, causing hurt by means of poison/drugs with intent to commit an offence, and criminal intimidation.
The Borivali holiday court has remanded Shakeel Noorani in police custody until August 12. Investigators are currently looking into whether other locations were used for the alleged offenses and are gathering further evidence.
Defense Stand
Meanwhile, Shakeel Noorani’s legal counsel, Advocate Vikas Singh Goar, has strongly denied the allegations, stating that his client has been falsely implicated.
"The allegations made by the actress are yet to be established before a court, and the investigation is underway. Noorani is presumed innocent unless proven guilty
," the defense counsel maintained.
Further investigations into the matter are currently underway.
