ABVP Intensifies Demand to Restore Student Union Elections, Submits 5-Point Memorandum to Tribal University VC
BANSWARA, RAJASTHAN : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Thursday at Govind Guru Tribal University, Banswara, pressing for various student-welfare demands. Led by State Joint Secretary Anand Ninama, a delegation of ABVP activists submitted a five-point memorandum addressed to the Higher Education Minister through Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. S. Thakur.
Addressing the demonstrators, Anand Ninama emphasized that student union elections serve as the foundational nursery for democracy and leadership. "Elections foster leadership skills, accountability, and a spirit of public service among students. Many of our nation's parliamentarians, legislators, and public representatives emerged from student politics. Students must be granted the opportunity to elect their representatives through democratic means," he stated.
Ninama criticized former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over his stance on student elections, accusing his administration of banning the elections while now calling for their revival. He urged the current state government to act swiftly in the interest of the student community by restoring the election process without further delay.
Key Demands Outlined in the Memorandum:
Immediate Restoration of Elections: Reinstate student union elections across Rajasthan and ensure they are conducted regularly every year.
Unified Academic Calendar: Implement a standardized academic calendar across all state universities to ensure timely admissions, coursework, examinations, and result declarations.
Faculty & Staff Recruitment: Expedite filling vacant faculty and administrative posts across universities and colleges.
Appointment of Principals: Appoint permanent principals in all government colleges.
Establishment of Rajasthani Language Departments: Set up dedicated Rajasthani Language departments in every university along with the appointment of subject-matter expert faculty.
Ninama warned that if the state government fails to take a positive decision on these demands soon, the ABVP will launch a phase-wise statewide agitation.
Prominent ABVP leaders present during the protest included Division Convener Bhumika Ninama, District Convener Vinod Maida, SFD Co-Convener Hemant Khant, Unit President Rahul Dindor, Manish Bamaniya, Division Convener Suresh Maida, Manish Yadav, Tarun, Girls’ Wing Lead Varsha Dodiyar, Ravi Meena, and Office Secretary Harish Maida, along with a large number of student activists.
