Setting an Example: Villagers Repair Damaged Road Through Voluntary Labor, Secure Safe Passage for Schoolchildren
BANSWARA — Tired of waiting for administrative action, the residents of Sarwarpura village in Banswara district have taken matters into their own hands, setting a inspiring example of community action and civic responsibility.
The hazard directly impacted nearly 70 school children daily, along with thousands of visiting tourists. Students were forced to wade through deep water, risking their safety every day and leaving parents constantly anxious.
Despite repeated appeals to local authorities and the administration, no action was taken to fix the route. Realizing the immediate threat to their children's safety, the parents and villagers decided to stop waiting and take action themselves.
Joining hands through voluntary labor (shramdaan), the locals filled and leveled the massive pothole on the main road. Additionally, they dug a temporary drainage channel along the bridge to clear the accumulated water.
"This repair work was fundamentally the administration's duty," a local resident shared. "However, the safety of our children comes first. We couldn't sit back and wait for an accident to happen."
Following the initiative, the route has become safe and accessible once again, bringing immense relief to students, parents, and commuters. The proactive step taken by the villagers of Sarwarpura stands out as a powerful model of public participation and social initiative.
