Pregnant Woman Dies Following Police Action in Firozabad; 6 Cops Suspended Amid Outrage
FIROZABAD, UTTAR PRADESH — Widespread outrage and tension erupted in Labhua village after a 28-year-old pregnant woman, Anjali Verma, passed away following a controversial police raid at her residence. In response to the growing public anger, the Firozabad Police department suspended six personnel, including two Sub-Inspectors, pending a detailed inquiry ordered by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
The incident unfolded when a police team arrived at Anjali’s house to detain her husband, Gaurav Kumar, for questioning regarding a local theft and robbery investigation. According to family members, Anjali, who was nearly eight and a half months pregnant, pleaded with the officers not to take her husband away. The family alleges that a scuffle broke out during the confrontation, during which Anjali sustained injuries to her abdomen.
Hours after the altercation, Anjali went into labor and was rushed to a nearby medical facility. She gave birth to a baby boy, but her condition rapidly deteriorated shortly after delivery, leading to her death during treatment. The newborn remains in critical condition.
