Has 'Jatayu' Attained Salvation? Ayodhya’s Multi-Million Cruise Turns into a Public Mockery
AYODHYA: Launched with immense fanfare to elevate Ayodhya onto the global spiritual tourism map alongside the construction of the Ram Temple, the ambitious 'Jatayu Cruise Service' has now degenerated into a symbol of administrative neglect. Promoted as a premium experience allowing devotees to witness the scenic banks of the Saryu River while undertaking a unique spiritual voyage, the reality on the ground paints a vastly different picture.
Over the months, authorities offered contrasting justifications for its downtime. Initially, the administration blamed low water levels in the Saryu River for keeping the cruise docked. When water levels subsequently surged, the service was suspended again under the pretext of high-water hazards. Today, the multi-million-rupee vessel sits rusting along the banks of the Saryu, with locals deriding it as a prime example of a failed, "photogenic tourism model."
The plight of the Jatayu Cruise has sparked widespread public criticism, especially as preparations gear up for grand celebrations at the Ram Temple in November 2025. The government has recently announced a slew of new ventures, including 'Time Marina', 'Royal Boating Experience', and 'Spiritual Journey Experience'. However, residents and visiting pilgrims are increasingly skeptical, questioning whether these new announcements will also end up abandoned immediately after inauguration.
Local tourism stakeholders warn that without honest execution and consistent maintenance, massive public investments will remain mere showpieces, ultimately eroding the trust of pilgrims and citizens alike.
